Day Forty-two

Today, they missionaries are coming over again around 4:30. We ate lunch this afternoon and then we waited for the missionaries to get here. We had another awesome discussion about Jesus and the Bible, we read through more scripture and I prayed for my first time with them! It was a good feeling to have that time of devotion and fellowship with other christians. It just makes Brazil that much better when God is a major part of my travels. The missionaries left around 6:30 and then it was time to relax again before picking up Dani from her friends house to come back home, before leaving again to eat pizza! We went to a fabulous pizzeria where we ordered all sorts of pizzas! YUM! We spent our evening there and laughed A LOT..the did a little picking on the American girl ;) and we talked about accents and different ways that I say things. I have a lot of fun with them and being with them has made this trip so wonderful! They treat me like family and are so good to me. I am truly blessed to be here in Brazil for two months. I have experienced so much, and I cannot wait to experience so much more! I know God still has so much planned for my time here and for my mission here as well. This isn't just a trip, it's an opportunity for me to share my faith and my testimony as well, and for that, I am truly grateful! More to blog about soon!

Day Forty-one

Playing catch up! I definitely missed blogging again last night, we had a busy evening! Yesterday I was in my pajamas all day long, it was nice to stay comfortable and be inside to relax all afternoon. I was making some phone calls to my grandmothers and I accidentally had my iPod set on degrees Celsius..OOPS! So I definitely thought it was 22 degrees fahrenheit all day long, that was my chuckle for the day! My dad asked how cold it was here and I told him 22 and he said DEGREES FAHRENHEIT!? And I said YEAH! Really cold! And then he said are you sure that's not Celsius and that's when it hit me..Ohhhh yes, it problly is degrees Celsius..of course I wouldn't really know if it were that cold because I haven't been outside all day..but the sun was definitely shining very bright! I changed it, and sure enough..72 degrees fahrenheit..that's okay..you have permission to laugh! I laughed when I realized that it was still set on Celsius. After that realization I felt much better about the day! around 7:30pm we took a taxi to the church where we practiced more hymns to perform in July. The rest of the youth were helping to pack empty soda bottles full of white rice, and then separate bottles full of black beans. They will deliver these bottles to the poor. It was amazing to see how many they could pack with it just being about 15 volunteers. It was a cold night, more like 30 degree fahrenheit haha..COLD! We took a taxi back home and stayed in the rest of the evening. Another great day here in Brazil! I'm glad it wasn't as cold as I thought! It was a nice day to relax! More to post soon!

This evening I will clean my room and maybe watch a movie or something..I don't know yet! But it was a BEAUTIFUL day today..I hope we have more sunshine :) sunshine makes me happy!! Day Thirty-nine

Today was a mall kind of day, we literally spent the whole day in this HUGE mall, I think it is bigger than the mall of America! We didn't shop in a lot of stores, we just looked around a lot. I bought a few more things to wear to church too. We came home and Ligia had to go to school and I was on FaceTime with my dad, sister and niece. I heard about those crazy tornados and all of the hail that came down. I heard about all of the power outages as well..no fun! But it's good that it was cool so having no A/C wasn't too horrible! I am glad that everyone is safe and nothing horrific happened where there were a lot of deaths. I am still hearing about Vacation Bible School at my church, Cool Spring Baptist. I am SO GLAD it is another successful year!! Next year I will help out in every way that I can, I have now missed two summers..not okay! I miss the kids and all of the fun! I love seeing the kids smiling faces on our church's Facebook. It makes me happy that there are so many children again! That is definitely a praise!! As for me, I am still reading a lot of my Bible and having my quiet time with God in the evening and mornings. It's awesome to be able to look outside and see the busy street and gas station with the mountains in the distance. I just thank God for this opportunity EVERY DAY. I am so grateful for everything!! It was another fun filled day! More to blog soon!

Day Thirty-eight

Someday soon, I will make a song about sleeping. I really love to sleep, and it's even better when you know you aren't wasting a lot of beautiful sunny days away. Here in Brazil it is really cold and on a lot of days, it is raining and the sun doesn't like to come out a lot. Today, Ligia and I were going to go down town early in the morning, but both of us overslept so we waited until after lunch was served, to get ready and do some shopping for things that she needs for school. We did a lot of walking around because the sun decided to pop out for a little while. We went to her favorite nail polish store and I got a few more colors to paint my nails. We spent all afternoon down town and came home around 5. We made bread with baked cheese and seasoning on top and I FaceTimed with my family. Mae and Pai took me out to dinner to meet more family! We went to a restaurant called Tartaruga (turtle!). The steak pictured above is real barbecue! Muito bom (very good)!! Carol (Gabi's wife) is in the picture with me, I will have to ask for the photo of all of us that their uncle has on his camera, I'm sure it will be added to Facebook at some point! The evening was very very cold so we stayed inside! More to post soon!

Day Thirty-seven

Kids will be kids! I was laughing in church today too, this little girl was under the pew with her dads cell phone and it was making baby laughing noises. She was making mean faces to me and I was making them back. It's my way of communication here in Brasil! Gotta find what works best to communicate with children! :P We came home for some lunch that Pai prepared for us! Noodles with olives and meat. This afternoon we all slept and just relaxed, I made some phone calls back home, it's good to call home and hear what all has been going on! I called my Philadelphian sis, Megan to wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Here's to you, Megaboo..another year older and another year more beautiful! <3 Ligia and I were able to FaceTime with her and answer some questions. Ligia and I had time to talk about the Bible and different verses. We were able to discuss our religions and talk about false things that people have to say about the Mormon belief. It is a twisted, twisted world out there. Take everything worth a grain of sand people..don't believe everything you hear. I keep looking up at my photos and I can't help but smile, this morning it was a joy to be in church and singing songs IN PORTUGUESE to my God :) and that darling little girl who always has a smile on her face..except when she is doing the mean face to me, or course! ;) Overall, another really great day here in Curitiba! More to post soon! I have a semi early morning tomorrow, going downtown for some shopping!

Day Thirty-six

Today pai picked us up in the afternoon to get some lunch, we had very good steak, potato salad, rice, beans, and good ole coca-cola! After lunch we dropped mae off at the house and we went to the mall to look for design magazines for Ligia's class. The line was way too long so we ended up not buying anything. We left the mall and came back home to relax some before going back out to Mustang Sally's we had these awesome nachos..they weren't your everyday nacho, it was almost like doritos with ground beef and delicious cheese backed on top! Everything is half off so we ordered two plates to share between all three of us. I ended my meal with a milkshake!! Yay for Saturday eating! Now we are back at the house and watching movies and hanging out. Church in the morning so it is a quiet evening here at home! More to post tomorrow!

Day Thirty-five

Today was the day that the mormon missionaries came over to share their faith and their believes with me. To share what the book of mormon is and how they prayed to God is search for an answer if this is true. I had some hard questions, and at times I was defensive of my own faith. I was honest with them and I was curious as to why the book of mormon is so important. I think it is natural for anyone to question something that is different. I was prepared to answer questions that I knew and to say I don't know for the questions that I didn't. It was good to hear some of their testimony and why they believe what they believe. I was able to share some about me and my faith and why I believe in the Bible and why I have never read the book of mormon. It just isn't apart of my faith. As simple as that. It was different to hear about everything with the prophets and how there is a prophet here still..how God calls different prophets when one dies. I need to pray, ask God, and have quiet time with just Him and talk, talk, talk..I love my Lord and I know where I will be when I die. It's humbling to know that I am confident in my walk with Christ and how He has taught me so much. It was good to open up and be real with people of different faith. Maybe sometimes I was too much but I think God would have made me shut up if it were too much. Maybe, just maybe they learned something from me too. It was a good talk, long talk, but good talk and there was A PACKAGE FROM HOME!!! :) I opened a package that my mom sent to me, we loved all of the AMERICA things and my pictures of my niece!! Brownie mix for Ligia and skittles for Gabi and Tigao. I loved opening the package and reading cards from home, it was a good feeling! I love my family! Thank y'all!! <3 We went to the japanese restraunt again (Wiki Maki) and Ligia and Tiago ate fish and I just had white rice (boring..I know :P)..I don't like FISH! We came home to talk some and have some conversation. I saw Ligia's 15th (like a sweet sixteen) video from her night, dance with her dad and different brazilian styled dances as well! She had a huge party with A LOT of friends and family. It was like a mini wedding!! It looked very fun and the party ended very late..4am the party stopped! We watched a really cute movie with a christian message at the end. There are little angels everywhere..so true! We stayed up until 4 in the morning and then finally went to sleep! Another eventful day in Curitiba! More to blog soon!

Day Thirty-four

I had the chance to catch up with sleep, I haven't been feeling well at all so it was nice to be able to sleep past my regular wake up hour! Ligia woke me up for lunch, my favorite meal! Beans and rice are the best here and this will sound weird to everyone back home BUT TRUST ME..beans, rice, corn, wheat, eggs, and ground beef is fantastic together. I am pretty sure I heard you say EW out loud after reading that mixture. And I don't blame you, if I were reading this blog from someone else I would not believe that that is a good combination. But it totally is! I am definitely making this for myself in america! :) So that was lunch, and then we had down time..time for relaxation and then we had some pizza later in the evening before Tiago and Li went to school and Mae, Pai and I went to church to see a baptism. And you may ask, "what are mormon baptisms like?", "is it different in Brazil?"..this was an ordinary baptism, old life washed away and new life is given through Jesus Christ..IN FREEZING COLD WATER! Everyone was shivering because we all knew how cold that water was! It was a happy moment for the church, it was in a small room so a lot of people were standing outside and watching but there was a mirror so the people in the back could see what was being reflected from down in the baptismal pool. The "president" and his wife had us over for some brazilian finger foods. They are a family of 6 (or 7) and all from Utah, it's just the mom dad and one son that are here in Brazil. They are really really nice, the dad (president) was talking to me in portuguese and finally Ligia said, she speaks english, she's from America. I could understand him, I didn't want to be rude, but he was quick to ask how I like it here! They are really sweet people with a beautiful home! I really enjoyed spending my evening with them and hearing about other missions that they have served. More to post soon!!

Day Thirty-three

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

I woke up this morning feeling really gross, luckily as the day went on my head cleared up and I can breathe a little more. I got myself ready for the day and the missionaries came over for some lunch. Gabi and Carol came over to eat too. It was a good lunch, with a lot of conversation and laughter! We talked about the different accents of each place and the words that are hard to say. For everyone's knowledge. Never ask someone who speaks portuguese to say beach. It just doesn't work out. We talked about the difference between the West and the East and how I say Y'all and they say you guys. Yeah yeah yeah! They were hating on my southern accent, making fun of the little things that I said. Haha! It was good times and one of the elders asked if he could come to speak with me and I said sure. They will come by on Friday to talk to me and give me an opportunity to ask questions and maybe share some of my testimony and my faith in God. I am really excited for this and I am glad he asked. Later this evening we went to the mall because I was really in need for some chocolate and peanut butter ice-cream (not the healthiest choice but oh well!) it was very delicious and it satisfied my craving! I found my Nike shoes that I have been on a search for, for 3 weeks now! Finally I found comfortable ones that were actually a very decent price. You're welcome mom and dad! :) We came home for some beans and rice and the Li and Tiago left to go to school. It has been a quiet evening. It was another great day here in Curitiba! More to blog soon!

Day Thirty-two

It is supposed to rain all this week..my body is not liking this sudden weather change. I am praying for a cleared nose and head. My allergies have kicked up into full gear today leaving me with a dripping nose and pounding headache! No fun at all! On the up side, I'm in BRASIL for crying out loud! Today was a relaxing day with not much going on, we had some lunch and then got ready for the day of shopping in the super mercado con tia! (shopping in the grocery store with aunt) it was a very long shopping trip with one very angry customer complaining about overly salty chicken. She made it well known to the whole cafeteria that this chicken is not good and I am very unhappy!…we were sure to complain to the manager about this behavior and he apologized about her behavior and that something like that should not happen. We took tia back to her apartment and then made it back home. There were a lot of groceries to take from the car to the elevator out of the elevator to the room. It is a very long process! We have food for both lunch and dinner tomorrow for when the missionaries come over to spend the day here. There is one boy from Washington and another boy from Oregon on their 2 year missions for mormons. It will be a fun day tomorrow, I just hope and pray I feel more like myself! More to blog tomorrow!

Day Thirty-one

IT HAS BEEN ONE MONTH! <3 I love Brasil!!!

Woke up and went down town to pick mae and Dani up after they went to shop in a few stores. We made our way to another way (this makes 4 malls that I have been to) and shopped some and then ate lunch. Good ole BK is what we all had from the food court. After eating some lunch we had to take Dani back to school for her to go to some more classes and to take a test. Ligia, mae, and myself all went back to the house. It was a relaxing afternoon and I was able to FaceTime with mom dad and BaPa girl! She showed me her itsy bitsy spider and she put on her sunglasses for me! She's getting so big! She loved to "kiss me" on the iPad and she loved saying BAPA! :) Since I call her that, she calls me that too! It's the cutest thing ever..I just love her so so much! Today was another rainy, yucky day so we didn't do anything outside. I am praying for some pretty weather to take pictures around town and of different things to post to this blog! Tomorrow is a new day in Brazil! I can't wait to experience more! More to post tomorrow!

Day Thirty

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY <3

7:45am (6:45am Va time) rise and shine for some good ole mormon church in Brasil. The kids had me entertained for our long service today. There were little kids running in the aisle, one little girl was playing with a CD and watching the lights bounce off of the rainbow side, there was one little boy laying on the floor and rolling back and forth with his arms and legs pointed. ALL DURING SERVICE! I was laughing so hard that I had tears rolling down my face. Too bad that I was the only one laughing. Awkward! ;) I would like to say it was a good service but I still cannot understand anything other than Amen, Jesus Christ and a little more of the sermon every now and then. We came home and Gabi and Carol came over for some lunch and then it was hang out and relax time! Movies with Mae today while Ligia was at Tiago's house. I face timed with daddy, momma, grandmudder and my uncle will for a very brief hello and chat for a little while too. It was good to see dad on Father's Day, even though I am not physically there in person. Overall it was another good day, it rained a lot but that is why we have movies and good food! :) more to blog about soon!!!

Day Twenty-nine

Today we woke up to go down town for some lunch! We went to the same place that I have blogged about before, it is a buffet styled restaurant and you just put on your plate what you would like to eat and you pay by the weight of the food. It was very good and well worth the wait! We were there earlier  than Mae (mom) and tia (aunt), so we had to wait a little while for them to get there to start eating. After lunch we did some shopping and I saw some shoes in the window that I would like to check out, luckily they had my size. Big feet are not common here in Brasil :P. We went back to the parking garage where we left our car and then dropped tia off at her house and headed back home. It was time to relax for a little while, make some phone calls, and paint my finger nails. Soon to find out, we're going to a church party! They have a traditional "ho-down" kind of party every June it's called Festa Junina. You dress up as cowgirls and cowboys and wear straw hats and cowboy boots. There was a lot of food, dancing, ball pit, trampoline, fishing game and good fun! I learned a dance called the Forró (a famous Brazilian dance). I have pictures and video from tonight and I will blog the photos soon! We left that party to go to tia's house because it was her birthday! We had pizza and cake, it was Pai, Mae, Dani, Li, Tiago, Gabi, Carol, Tia and their Primo (cousin) Tiago. We spent the remainder of our evening their and came home around 10:30pm. It was another fun filled day! I love it here in Brasil and I love experiencing all of the new things! Day Twenty-eight

It was another beautiful sunny day, Ligia spent most of her day finalizing her interior design project to turn in tonight for her grade. School ends for her the end of this month! In July we will do a lot more and a lot more fun adventures to blog about! We spent our evening at this really awesome 3 story house exhibit with rooms that were incredibly designed and thought out. I don't even want to know how much money was put into making all of it. It was just amazing. It's a bummer that I couldn't take any photos, the reasoning is that there was a magazine that had all of the photographs in it that you could buy (problly for some ridiculous price!!!). After spending about 2 hours touring through all of the rooms and looking at each tiny little detail, we made our way out of there. Tiago had a test so Ligia and I went to wait for him at his university before leaving to eat japanese food with Tiago, Ligia, Katherine and Tiago's friend who is also named Tiago. They were eating all sorts of crazy foods..octopus? I thought you just ate squid (little did I know, you can also eat octopus! GROSS!!). We spent our evening there from 11-almost 1am. Tiago drove all of the girls back to Ligia's house where we watched a movie and relaxed for the remainder of our Friday! It was a fun filled evening spent with good company! Day Twenty-seven

I wanna do something that matters, say something different
Something that sets the whole world on its ear
I wanna do something better with the time I've been given
I wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
Leave nothing less than something that says I was here

I Was Here- Lady Antebellum

This morning we woke up early to leave the house to go to Katherine's (Ligia's friend) aunts house about 10 min away. She was having a purse party! When I walked in, it was quite overwhelming. Purses everywhere, on tables, couches, chairs, on the floor and in big brown boxes! I didn't know where to begin!! I was looking for something unique and Brazilian looking and not too expensive! Luckily I found the perfect one for the perfect person! If they don't like it then I will haha :) after the purse party we came home to relax and I watched some movies and Ligia had homework and had to go to school. Mae, Pai and Dani were all going to church so I went along. Dani and Mae attend a young adults study so we had that and then there was choir practice for a festival that is in July! I learned a new portuguese song! It is very beautiful! We went to the super mercado again tonight to buy more groceries. When we came home it was movie night again and just relaxing! It was an eventful day and the weather was beautiful! More to post soon!

Day Twenty-six

Today was an absolutely beautiful sunny day!! Too bad we couldn't enjoy this weather today, there will hopefully be many more sunny days and not many more rainy days. Other than just relaxing all day and making phone calls to mom and my grandmother. God opened my eyes to something brand new that I already shared with my Facebook family. I will share the story here just so you all know too! Ever since accepting Jesus into my heart and being baptized in the 6th grade, I have always been considered "different" somehow set apart from how everyone else was acting in middle school and in high school. People (friends and family) would have a close look at my actions and sometimes call me out. I call it "The God Card". Is that how you would talk to Jesus? Is that how christians are supposed to act? Oh is that what you learned at summer camp? I didn't know christians said those words!..these are just to name a few. For all these years 6th grade until now, I have never known what to say back to those people, but for now on, I am completely prepared with what to say. Christina Caine tweeted about this today as I was scrolling through tweets so I could "re-tweet" like I like to do, quite often. The quote is now written on a piece of paper and taped to my wall (pictured above, me holding the quote) "If you truly live for the approval of God you will not be afraid to risk the disapproval of man." Instantly I knew that this was my answer that I have been searching for, for so many years! At that very moment, I knew that those weren't only Christine Caine's words, but those were words from God to answer my prayers. I felt a story sense of peace today knowing that I DO live for the approval of God. I have NEVER lived as those who were in school with me (pot, sex, parties, and the list problly goes on and on and on)…This was just a really cool moment in my life and I will never forget when I saw this on my twitter sitting in my room in Curitiba, Brasil. Can I get an amen!? :). God left me speechless and I was able to smile about this! For all of the people who have used "The God Card", I forgive you. More to blog tomorrow!

Day Twenty-five

This is the view from outside and down the street from my bedroom window. The zoom lens is great for capturing things that are far away! PASTEL PASTEL PASTEL! It was pastel night tonight, this is not always set up. The tents are FOOD. And the white trailer furthest away where people are standing is where there is delicious PASTEL. :)

Today started with lunch and then a quick notice to get ready because leaving in 30 min. to go downtown. We made our way downtown for the dentist and to do some shopping for necessities. Ligia took me to a few fun places that she loves to go, one being NAIL POLISH. And the other being JEWELRY. They have "OPI" kind of nail polish and it's cheap. Like 1.39. Which is a little more than 50 cents in american money. So cheap, so I may be coming home with some nail polish..Pinterest also helps with nail design ideas just for fun! After going to those little shops and seeing where their dentist office is, we went to a dress fitting. That was neat to see the design for the contest that Ligia will be doing in July. More to post in July, hang tight!! We came home for some pastel..that's what the picture above is of course! It was delicious! The missionaries came by for a quick visit, one of them is moving to a different city to do more missions before going back to the states. It was farewell for him. We ordered pizza and watched "To Save A Life", I haven't seen that movie since it came out into theaters. I just remember how much I loved it then and wanted to show the family this awesome movie. So it was a movie and pizza kind of night! Another great day here in Brazil, I can't complain one bit. I am in great health, the Lord is so good. I can't forget to thank Him each and every day for this incredible trip that I am on. Thank you all for the continued love, support, and most importantly, all of the prayers! I love you all!! Day Twenty-two

All day today I have thought that it was Sunday, my days were thrown off when Thursday was a holiday!  I knew that church wouldn't have their normal service so it wasn't weird that we didn't go to church on Sunday but what really threw me for a loop is when we went to the mall. Here, we don't shop on a Sunday or buy anything. It is a day of rest and to not do anything. After going to the mall, Dani and I watched Dispicable Me and were relaxing. When mom, dad and Li came home, Dani wanted to go somewhere for the evening. I was still confused as to why we were doing this (without saying anything). When riding home in the car I was talking to Ligia about "tomorrow" "Monday" and what we would do. She was quick to correct me and say that tomorrow is Sunday hahaha..DUH!! I blame it on the fact that Thursday was a holiday and all of my days are off by one. That was the humor for my evening. I replied simply with OH, YAY! :) Overall, it was a great SATURDAY and it was very relaxing! Mustang Sally's was delicious, we had nachos and dessert. More to post soon!!

Day Twenty-one

Today was a good day to spend in the mall, it was very cold outside! Ligia, Tiago, Dani, Mom, and Guillia all showed me around this huge mall that used to be a train station. Dani took me to this really awesome restaurant where we had really awesome palm (pictured above) and this famous desert that they have here too (name will be posted soon!). Everything is so delicious here, expensive, but very good! We shopped some but we will have to come back another day when it is not so crowded. There were a lot of people so we just went to the shops that we knew we wanted and then ate for the remaining time there! Dani treated me to everything that we had :). This was my day today, it was a very good day and I hope to go back there soon so I can see all of the stores. There stores are a lot different than american stores. They are all very classy, nothing too underclass. It is all over priced as well. But that is Brazil! Everything is too expensive!! More to post soon!!
